Unmistaken Hands: Ex Voto F.H.

(Quay Brothers, 2013, 26 min)

Working in the stop-motion puppet animation technique, for which they are best known, this new film by the Quay Brothers is based on the work of Uruguayan writer Felisberto Hernández, often referred to as the father of "magic realism", for whom the Quays share a strong affinity. While drawing on the literature of Hernández, Unmistaken Hands: Ex Voto F.H. traffics in the atmosphere and poetics of cinema of a distinctly Quayvian variety. The film features voice over by César Sarachu and music composed by Timothy Nelson. Edward Waisnis acted as producer.

The film was produced by Atelier Koninck QBFZ in collaboration with PRO BONO films and the support of the Fundación Felisberto Hernández, with funding provided by the Wexner Center for the Arts at The Ohio State University, the hosting institution that provided the funding under the auspices of their residency program.
