Bird of Flames by David Lynch, Chrysta Bell

(Chel White, 2012, 5.5 min)

Driven by the music of David Lynch and Chrysta Bell, Bird of Flames is a meditation on the enigmatic nature of love. In a small nightclub, a spider-like Vietnamese sorcerer coaxes a beautiful chanteuse to perform like a living doll. In the audience, a young man falls in love with her archetypal image of feminine beauty. With an aesthetic taken from dream imagery, Bird of Flames exists somewhere between live-action and stop-motion animation.
