Artificial Persons

(Katherin McInnis, 2012, 5 min)

In 1869, the Cardiff Giant was ‚ “discovered‚” in upstate New York.   The 10-foot tall man (and Barnum’s plaster copy) became one of the greatest hoaxes in US history.  At the same time, railroad companies began using the 14th Amendment (which guaranteed citizenship and due process to freed slaves) and other civil rights legislation to establish the concept of corporate personhood.  Soundtrack by Roger Winfield. -KM
