Back to Land is a meditation on the sight of a blue whale beached on a California shore. After being hit by a boat, the whale’s enormous body landed on a small beach, becoming an attraction for masses of people who came from a far to see it. The film is a poetic reflection on our fascination with nature as a spectacle – wondrous and desecrated at the same time.
